Question:
Can anybody suggest the fastest acting "general" anti depressant drug for
clinical normal depression? The ones I know about seem to take up to a few
weeks to act, and maybe more.
Answer:
I really dont think there is one, im afraid There are fast acting antidepressants! They're just all illegal and will
probably leave you feeling more ed up then you were when you started
. Which is why i continue to take them. I have never heard about those, I mean I'm just curious to know what are the
names of them? Im not sure there are any, however I've been on various AD's over the past
15years and I found that Seroxat was the fastest working I felt better
within hours, but Im not sure if that was psychological or not, saying that
I was given 30mg oxazepam at the same :-/ Most of the time I've taken AD's
along side some other drugs either antipsychotic or tranquilizer so its hard
to say. Seroxat on the whole did give me a real boost and major motivation could you say how easy it is to get your doctor to
prescribe it for "general clinical depression" do you know? It sounds like
just the kind of something I need to help maybe. i can tell you that any recreational drug will lift your spirts for a
short period of time.
It seems many people take anti-depressants and experience ill feeling
side affects which range from lock jaw and hallucinations to imsomnia
and increased sweating. I can tell you that recreational drugs in
general are much like taking conventional anti-depressants except the
ill feelings are reversed and the side affects only add to the joy of it
all. If i went smoked a herbal cigarette right now i would feel better.
Long term use of recreational drugs will you up!
But as a general pick me up from intense periods of feeling like you
want to kill yourself. There the best meds anyone can buy. Probably not the best advice. If I was to have a herbal cigarette just now
myself, then chances are I would feel 10 times worse. According to my GP, Escitalopram is meant to be the fastest acting. He said
it would work within a week. It did, on my panic and anxiety. I needed to
up to 20mg for the anti-depressant effect and that worked well. It worked
in a couple of days on my panic, and then again within a couple of days when
I upped the dose. That said, its a case of each to their own. One med may work great for one
of us and be crap for another. Take Prozac for example. I know people who
have got on great with it. Me, I took 140mg of the stuff (as prescribed by
the psych) for months and got no where.
I'd say talking to the GP is the best idea. Let them decide what meds will
be best in your case. You may have to try several before you find what it
is that works for you.
I'm about to start an experiment in using a mood stabiliser instead of an
anti-depressant because my psych is reading about research saying it could
work better in cases like mine. Its a risk, but one I'll take.
