the dr. please help me understand these med's.
Answer:
As a fellow bipolar, expect it to take some time to get stabilized... not only
for the meds to really hit, but also to find the dosages and proper meds you
need. It's not easy to treat bipolar depression and very individualistic. My
doc has me on a different regimen for bipolar, one that includes Depakote,
Geodon and two antidepressants, plus some other stuff, and slowly things are
starting to work out for me and days are looking better.
Good luck to you and hang in there. I hope you are seeing a proper "pdoc"
(psychiatrist) for this and not just your family doctor. They don't have the
patience nor anywhere near the expertise necessary to note and deal with the
subltle changes you experience on the meds. You need someone really sympathetic
and sharp who can take plenty of undistracted time during sessions to listen
and help you adjust meds and try new approaches as needed. It's really an art.
