Question:
Has anyone had this happen to them or seen it happen to others? I believe it
happened to me. I'm surprise to not have seen more discussion of this on thiswebsites. I was a run of the mill, mildly anxious, mildly depressed person for
years, although sometimes just fine for years. Then I took ecstasy 5 times
over about 6 months. During the four months after the last time I took any, I
gradually got worse and worse, until I became suicidally anxious with major
depersonalization. I now require 2mg alprazolam every day where before I took
no medication. Maybe it was just my time to snap, but I can't think of any
other reason why I would have, and the 4 month time frame fits some research
that has been published by one of the leading anti-MDMA scientists. There is
alot of controversy on this because some say Ecstasy can help with mental
illness, and I know there are tons of people out there taking it every weekend,
and so far there doesn't seem to be an epidemic of anxiety breaking out among
young people. Maybe it only happens to people who are already on the edge of
severe anxiety/depression. But I would just like to hear what anyone else has
to say about it.
Ecstasy caused my Generalized Anxiety Disorder - Don't ever use it, especially
if you suffer any form of Anxiety/Depressive/Sleep Disorder
Answer:
Even if you convince one person
not to try it, your warning will not be in vain. I saw the United States nationwide History Channel presentation on the
history of illicit drug use, and it said that psychiatrists are scared
of MDMA's ability to antagonize serotonin receptors PERMANENTLY. The
people who use MDMA enough will most likely have to be on
antidepressants for the rest of their lives.
Interestingly, MDMA was first used in the '60s as a drug that couples
could use to get closer to one another in sex. It was prescribed
legally by psychologists. I'm not making this up....
A lot of kids that I knew in high school were depressed to begin with;
they were the disenfranchised in society (the bookworm, the
unattractive, the infirm). When they tried all sorts of drugs, I knew
it wasn't just to have fun. It was a cry for help heeded by the wrong
people, in this case, drug dealers.
I've never done 'E' and don't intend to but I follow the papers and the drug
info pages on the net. From what I know about 'E' you may not be getting
'E' at all. PMA has been sold as 'E'(PMA can be real bad news). Meth has
been sold as MDMA. BTW don't believe the myth that heroin is being sold as
MDMA. Doesn't make sense. Do you know what you're actually getting?
Sometimes a mix is sold as 'E'. And of course 'E' is also sold as 'E'. -- Sure ecstasy can cause depression. Its bad stuff, especially when
used repetively over time. Its not physiologically addictive in the
sense that cocaine or heroin are. However, it has the potential to
scramble brain chemistry like all psychedelic drugs can do. Ecstasy is
a psychedelic drug. I dont really know of any thing that can fix what ecstasy does to you.
My guess would be maybe ECT might be the best thing to blast your brain
back to normal or semi normal. Sometimes it takes STRONG measures to
whip that depression problem.
I really feel bad for you and I know there are a lot of people out
there getting messed up by using illicit recreational drugs and even
booze. These all have the potential to really screw up your brain and
CNS, especially when taken over and over again over time.
There are even some legal prescription drugs that can induce severe
depression. Corticosteroids, birth control pills and some cancer drugs
are among them.
MDMA itself is not a neurotoxin, it is when the depleted serotonin
neurons, and reuptake sites begin to take up dopamine, and then
metabolize it into toxic metabolites that destroys serotonin axon
terminals...a small dose of a SSRI a few hours after taking MDMA will
prevent any damage by blocking the dopamine from entering the reuptake
sites.
pure MDMA injected into the brains of primates does not cause serotonin
axon damage
all studies concerning MDMA neurotoxicity involved massive doses given
daily over an extended period of time (interesting how the FDA approved
pondomin, which causes the *exact* same axon damage, for *daily* and
*extended* use, yet MDMA is an illicit and *harmful* neurotoxin)
