Question:
Time for a "Moderated" a.s.d.medication list!?
Answer:
People have said this nonsense every time a moderated group has been
formed ANYWHERE on the internet...and that's exactly what it is,
nonsense. A well moderated group screens out the abuse of trolls, and
keeps discussion on a civil level...NOTHING ELSE! People oppose moderated groups out of some misguided idea of what free
speech and censorship are all about. There are, and must be, limits on
free speech. Who has a problem with the censorship that makes it a
crime to yearn "hijack" on an airplane, or "fire" in a theater?
What people forget is that participation in a moderated group is
voluntary. People choose to go there, to be free from the abuse found
elswhere...the moderated group leads to MORE free speech, because more
people are able to participate.
And the s can still exercise their rights to free
speech...there is no shortage of forums for them elsewhere. I think a well defined line of appropriate vs inappropriate posts can
be drawn. Look at asdm now. You mean to tell me that certain
posts don't stand out as inappropriate?
Many moderated internets exist and flourish, and yes, there is debate
on them and differences of opinion, but no, no trolls and flame wars.
It's well without the realm of possibility to moderate this group
and remove the garbage. I don't know that a mailing list is the
way to do it (why not keep it on the internet?) but it should be obvious
even to a newbie that the internet is suffering.
Not necessarily...
No one is forced to read anyone else's posts. The "groups" are improved by being made more tolerant of diverse opinions,
and still without forcing anyone to read anyone else.
There is less rampant "playing doktor", etc.. though calls for censorship
and "ISP plug pulling" are still being played.
Have a list.
Entierly free will to join or not.
Permission is not required.
That is not true. You guys keep on changing your names and emails to
avoid filters on purpose. You have every right to do as you wish, but if
they want to form a moderated internet or list, it will be much better
for the people who want help, not your rhetoric and filthy lies.
Am I arguing with their wishes for such? As for _LYING_ .... believe I have offered you wages on such, and you backed
down, along with making most questionable statements.
You know MacLachlan, you are a Socialist, yet you all talk like Commuinist
Party members.... except it's the same way with psych. drugs, isn't it?
I have created an alternative to websites, the a.s.d.medication *moderated*
mailing list. Anyhow, here is the introduction, with instructions on how to subscribe:
Welcome and thanks for joining the the internet *ALTERNATVIVE*, MODERATED support
and discussion regarding Depression and medications. This message is also sent
out once a month as a reminder to subscribers. The the internet *asdm* has been
destroyed by 'flamers', and this list was created as an alternative.
ALL messages, AND subscriptions, have to be *approved* by the asdmed_list
Manager, newsmgra...@hotmail.com. You may ALSO post anonymous messages,
by adding the word ANON (exactly) in your SUBJECT (NOT the message). The list manager (myself) will
post from his address stripping your message of any identification. *PLEASE* use this
feature responsibly, and ONLY if it is absolutely needed. It is VERY time consuming,
and there are other methods to post anonymously. One, is to get an account at
www.hotmail.com, www.yahoo.com, or any of the other on-line free web-based
email services. This is a privelage that I am taking my time to do, so
please be considerate. I would highly suggest using an anon FIRST name only
in your messages.(something that you are NOT identified with anywhere else.)
*PLEASE* also note that there is no 'on-line database' of your email addresses
that anybody can access.
The moderator (myself) is the only one who has access to this list's features.
As a list manager, I am not only a consumer of mental health services with
depression, but a professional who works in the mental health field. I am
operating this list solely as a community service. This list will be operated
based on my professional and some of my personal code of ethics. These listed
below are *guidelines*, so PLEASE, also use some common snese when posting.
1) ALL information is 'at your own use'. PLEASE, consult with you doctor or
psychiatrist before making any changes, or contemplating a diagnosis or
prescription. Nobody, myself included, can diagnose your illness, or prescribe
treatment, nor take responsibility for your actions.
2)All information sent through, and to, myself (list manager,
newsmgra...@hotmail.com) IS kep't confidential. Any information YOU
reveal is of your own doing. Having said that, as list manager, I
have COMPLETE control over every single post to this list.
I, newsmgra...@hotmail.com, will follow the International Social Work Code of
ethics, which can be viewed at: http://www.ifsw.org/Publications/4.4.pub.html
3) Based on the above, flames (as in abusing) ANY list member will get you
immediately temp. banned for two weeks. Your post will NOT be put to the list,
and if it happens a second time, you will be permanently banned. Again, remember
I as list manager have to approve ALL messages and ALL subscriptions. This will
be the MOST STRICTLY ENFORCED aspect of this list, and NO EXCEPTIONS will be
made. This is a 'safe support' group, and abuse WILL be dealt with firmly.
4)I, newsmgra...@hotmail.com, have the final discretion and right to
unsubscribe, reject, or delete any postings. PLEASE use common sense, and
courtesy when posting. This list will be a 'work in progress', and
issues will be dealt with as it goes. PLEASE email the list manager with ANY
concerns or questions.
I suggest you say who you are and direct us to information on your
credentials. what internets do you normally post to, and under what names ? This will
enable people to check the archives and judge your attitudes and likely
value of a group where you are the sole, self-appointed moderator.
Don't you think it rather naive to post your introductory message with
a user name that suggests you are 'anti' something ? Whilst it is reasonable
to exclude flames and abusive messages from a internet,
being anti anything suggests that you will unfairly censor reasonable
comment which is not in accord with your own prejudices.
I'd advise people to be very suspicious of this. The header on the message
shows clear attempts to conceal who this is. Unless the person is totally
upfront then they are not suitable to call themselves a moderator of
anything. Assume they will be a censor unless they come up with suitable
answers.
