Question:
I was just curious to know if there have been any famous people
diagnosed with schizophrenia. I think Albert Einstein and Salvador Dali
were.
If you could direct me to any good books or web sites with this sort of
information, I would really appreciate it?
Answer:
Abe Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Ben Franklin, Pablo Picasso, and John Denver
all were, in addition to the two you mentioned. that is hard to believe.
schizophrenic presidents? what was their diagnosis?
I think you are mixing up schizophrenia with DYSLEXIA.
Sorry guys, but so far as I'm aware old Abe and Woodrow were not
diagnosed. All suffered "problems" but to actualy go and give them the
label of schizophrenic is probably not quite accurate. It's rather sad
but most of us are, in our pofessional lives at least, very reticent
to advertise our illnesses. I'd like that to change but with all the
bad press and the poor attitude of the psychiatric profession to us I
think that this is going to stay the same for quite some time. I have yet to hear of someone WITH THE DIAGNOSIS whom was actualy
"famous". THough from posts I've received many of us hold down jobs
etc etc. Picasso and John Denver I'm unsure of. There was one of the
members of Fleetwood Mac that suffered for years.
I must say that I too find the idea of being "president of the USA" to
be a job that, as someone with schizoaffective disorder, I would not
be capable of holding down. I enjoy pressure and deadlines but I don't
want any of it to be "mission critical", it just doesn't make sense,
we're just not *that* reliable. *shrug*
At the time Abe and Woodrow lived, people were much more tolerant of
schizophrenia. It is because of Republicans in recent times (not Abe
Lincoln, because he wouldn't be a Republican if he was alive today) that
there is so much bigotry now. I'm a President, and it doesn't cause me any problems. I heard that John Nash, past winner of the Nobel Prize for
Economics, recovered from schizophrenia.
i heard Kurt vonnegut jr. was diagnosed schizo
and that vincent vangoh was thought to be schizo
Janis Joplin also.
Mark Vonnegut (Kurt Vonnegut's son) was definitely schizo. He wrote
a book about it, called _The Eden Express_. About Kurt Vonnegut Jr, I read the book in 1980-81. I too still
smoke this book was smoking propaganda. It was though good for some
facts about the illness. It's on the library shelfs here. In my fears
he is a legal alien, in my development of being a writer he was a
guide, in my experience of Ward 3A a painter.
About famous people with the illness, isn't Buzz Aldrin kinda from our
times and he was spoked by things like fame, aliens and moon rock as I
may have been. Buzz recovered.
Then there's all those musicians in the past, the classical composers I
mean.
And I am quite social myself, maybe still narrsistic but getting
