Cool! I work in the mental health field. I'll let the people at work know!
Now if I could only find a free "Internet Shopping Addiction" video to link
from my site! Have you been to http://www.helix.com? This is Glaxo-Wellcome's site and
they offer a large number of *free* health-related videos and pamphlets.
Some are patient-oriented and some are more geared for health care
professionals. I have been accused(via e-mail) of making "SMARTASS COMMENTS" about
this tape. That I am making fun of the people who have this disease. I
have some stuff to say on this matter.
First of all "HUMMMMM" is not a smartass comment! Second of all the other comment I made was to Krayonne's comment about
wishing she could find a free "Internet Shopping Addiction" link. I
replied back " LOL yeah we could all use it!". She implied that I didnt
think before I posted it on here that I didnt think that about most of
you would just get the tape so you could tape over it. Did I say
anything about a good video to tape over? NOOOOOOO
I was not making fun of people with this dreaded disease! Nor was
Krayonne.
She also encouraged me "TO HAVE CLASS" not to put it on any other
listings I may have. Well I dont agree with her on that. I posted this
video so some person who may like to have this video for the
information that is on it. And I will be posting it on my site.
I also have a mental health problem. I have Bi-Polar depression. I take
medication for it everyday. When I first found out I had this crap I
didnt know where to go to find info on it. It was in a new group just
like this one that I found some information about it. It was the best
freebie I ever found as far as I am concerned.
So if anybody else thinks I was maing fun, WE werent. I am sorry this
has turned into a long drawn out reply but I had alot to say. There are some good resources there. Still having problems
finding a Shopping Addiction video, though.... Oh, well. Wow. It's amazing to me to believe that in this day and age people would
react in such a negative manner to your comment. I applaud you for being so
open about being bipolar. It is people exactly like those who flamed you,
who keep so many from seeking professional help. Mental health care has
long had a stigma attached to it, and I was under the impression that our
society had begun to evolve with respect to these disorders. They are
diagnosable conditions listed in the DSM IV manual and accepted as genuine
'disorders' by medical professionals. Those who responded in such a negative way to your post must have their own
issues that need to be dealt with.
you have made me feel better! I don't usually just
annouce to the world that I am Bi-Polar.Don't get me wrong I am not
ashamed of having this disorder. I didnt choose it, it chose me. ASnd
it took me along time to get help for it. Once I found out there was a
name to what was wrong with me, I was relieved. I didnt know where to
go to get resources to find out what was wrong with me. Or so at the
time I didnt know of any. I wanted this person or anyone else to
understand we were not joking around about the subject of the video.
If I find any info that I think someone will benefit from I will be
posting it here. I dont care what anybody says. If that tape saves one
person life, it will be well worth it to me. I wonder myself. After I found out I had it, my mom told me she
diagnosed about 5 years ago. And 2 of her sisters have it also. Why
couldnt she had seen the symptoms I was having? She could helped me
along time before I finally got help. No she didnt want me to know she
had that. The hell I went through. I thought I was going crazy! My
Doctor told me that daughters of women who are bi-polar have a 95%
chance of getting it. I worry about my daughter now, I am very open
about it with my kids. I have educated them on it. I know how ya feel Soth! I'm on Prozac now, after being diagnosed with
depression last year. It's helped TREMENDOUSLY!! It just took me finally
admitting that I had a problem that I couldn't fix alone, and that I needed
help. Took a big weight off my shoulders!! I don't know what I'd do without
my medication...I doubt my marriage would have lasted much longer.
